Images from Andulysian Creativity
Professor
Dr. Mohammad Majeed Al-Saeed
There are two trends in studying Andulysian literature: one finds this literature quite imitative of Spanish literary tradition and the other believe that this literature is original and the product of the Arabic mind. This paper argues for a middle position which views this literature as a mixture of originality and imitation.

A Sociolinguistic Study of Hyperbole in Iraqi Arabic
Full.Prof.

Prof. Abed Shahooth Khalaf
This paper is concerned with hyperbolic expressions as used in Iraqi Arabic everyday conversation (henceforth IA). Such expressions usually pass without challenge by listeners, who accept them as creative intensifications for elevative or effective purposes such as humor or irony, and who often make their own supportive contributions to the figure of speech. The paper attempts an analysis of such expressions from a sociolinguistic perspective. It is usually thought that the linguistic context as well as other metalinguistic factors play a crucial role in the structuring and understanding of tropes.

Ironic Expressions: Echo or Relevant Inappropriateness ?

Qadir Hussein
This research adresses the pragmatic phenomenon of irony in the light of two post-Gricean theories,Echoic-Mention Theory and Relevant Inappropriateness Theory.According to the first theory,it is essential, for the identification of irony,to find the echoic quality of the utterance and the speaker's attitude of dissociation towards this utterance. The second theory considers irony as an ironical utterance which is both inappropriate and relevant to its context. It is Gricean at the core, but includes some departures from Grice's own model. It is argued,in this research, that echoic use of language is essential to standard cases of verbal irony while relevant inappropriateness is not.

The Super Villain in Brontes 'Wuthering Heights and Hardys' The Return of the Native

This research will tackle and reveal the bizarre state of heart in two seemingly different novels: Bronte's wuthering Heights (1847) and Hardy's The Return of the Native (1878). This research will prove the existence of the third name of character the super villain and will trace the capacity of human heart under certain pressure to adopt the two opposing weapons: love and hatred. The struggle in Heathcliff and wildeve seems to be the very conflict between fire and water in our real universe but to be in the same spot is the accentric thing that will be discussed in this research.

This paper discusses how the appeal of fear has been exploited by George W. Bush in his presidential speeches given between September 2002 and March 2003 to legitimize the American war on Iraq.
